The media tells girls how they are
supposed to look.They have set
unrealistic standards to live up to.They
critique celebrities and constantly criticize them regarding their body and
what they wear. The media is always
giving us the latest information for the best diet and the newest workouts that
maximize results in the smallest amount of time. The diet industry has grown to $20 billion and
there are thousands of different dieting supplements on the market today. The use of Photoshop has proven that even the
celebrities cannot live up to the standards set by the media. The media does not display the image of a
healthy woman who may be small but works out and has healthy eating habits; they
display women who are as thin as possible. The media does not promote a healthy lifestyle
they promote the quickest ways to get small.
The magazines that display the
images of “best and worst bikini bodies”, “lose thigh and stomach fat fast,”
are stationed at every gas station and grocery store line for you to see.Young girls see these images and develop the
idea that in order to “popular” or beautiful you need to be as small as
possible.Simply working out or eating
healthy isn’t enough to look like the photo-shopped images on magazines so they
take extreme steps such as anorexia, bulimia, taking diet pills, and consuming laxatives
to achieve the image they desire.
